Alien: Rogue Incursion is coming to Quest later than expected, as developer Survios announced the Quest 3 version of the game is now delayed to “early next year.”

The studio announced the news in an X post, noting that both PSVR 2 and SteamVR versions of the game will still arrive on the original December 19th launch date.

Survios says the delay, which affects Quest 3 and Quest 3S, is to “ensure Alien: Rogue Incursion meets these high standards and provides the Alien VR experience that fans and players expect.” You can find the full message from Survios at the bottom of the article.

This follows the game’s first preview event, where press went hands-on with the game running on Quest 3 tethered to a PC, consequently showing off the SteamVR version. Notably, previews were promising, with previewers from IGN and UploadVR praising the game’s immersive environments, smart narrative beats, and intuitive weapons and tools.

Fitting all of those complex and necessarily lush environments into Quest 3’s comparatively more demanding performance budget however is a big sticking point for practically all VR developers, as it requires a lot more care and polish to meet those ‘AAA’ visuals fans are expecting—making the delay regrettable, if not understandable from a developer standpoint.

A single-player action-horror game, Alien: Rogue Incursion is puts you in the shoes of Zula Hendricks, an ex-Colonial Marine on a dangerous mission that brings her to the uncharted planet Purdan. Accompanied by the sentient AI companion, Davis 01, you’re tasked with fighting to the heart of the infested Gemini Exoplanet Solutions research facility, fighting against packs of Xenomorphs along your way.

PlayStation VR2 and Steam versions of the game will still launch on December 19, 2024.

    Must be nice to show less than a minute of gameplay, know you're not going to make the launch date, be featured on the Meta front page to pre-order for months, wait through the launch of a new HMD, and then bail once your grift is complete.

    I want the game to be good, but everything about this title feels like an incoming train wreck. They knew months ago they weren't ready and took people's money anyway.

      They did not show any footage of Quest 3 version so far. Everything what was shown is from WIP PC version. Also no one is forced to pre-order anything.

        That is EXACTLY my point.

        They’ve used PC footage on Quest branded trailers and channels. They’ve kept the false December launch date and pre-orders rolling, even though they’re not making this year.

        All of these are deceptive practices designed to trick people into buying an app that won’t look like that and won’t launch that date.

          There is no meta or quest branded trailer that says that footage is from quest device. And the date wasn’t false. It was planned for 19 Dec, but it was delayed. And they explained why they did it. Also no one is forced to pre-order anything. And even if one does pre-order it, then can always cancel it as well. There is no trickery here. You just unreasonably attack a transparent developer here.

            You can pretend that showing footage on the Meta channel, with a Meta logo doesn’t fool people into believing that these graphics are on Quest, but most consumers aren’t aware it’s PC footage and will miss the small legal disclaimer.

            The point on the date is that original launch was December, then they changed that 30 days ago. But if you look at the Meta Quest Store, it is still listed as December. That’s just deceptive, as they’re pushing pre-orders for a new device, then will flip the switch to pre-order through the holiday season. This is a marketing tactic to steal money.

            If you know Survios, you’ll know this behavior is common. And they’re being so shady because they’re low on capital and need this to work.

    Yeah, but a very annoying cable which is even worse compared to latency, as even cabled isn't zero latency.

    Latency is always there but it is minimal (not perceivable) with a cabled headset that receives uncompressed video data.

      nothing wrong with sitting down. it just depends on the game. feet get tired after long stretches of playing skyrim FUS. sometimes being comfortable is more immersive then standing. and having better visuals is sometimes a better experience then being untethered.

        i didnt say it was something wrong with sitting down. but its easy to say the cable dont matter when sitting down.
        untethered or tethered has both pros and cons, i value the pros with untethered more.

  • Oh man… PLEASE be good… Alien: Isolation was one of the best VR experiences ever, and one I've revisited multiple times since. Super excited for this one.
