AltspaceVR is hosting another open beta weekend, and they want you to bring the chips and dip this time for a shared viewing of Super Bowl XLIX. Whether you’re rooting for the Patriots or the Seahawks, you’re sure to have a great time hobnobbing while watching on the largest screen playing the big game in virtual reality.

Strap into your DK1/DK2, and grab all of your snack fixin’s (and maybe a few paper towels too just in case) because AltspaceVR is cordially inviting you to their new social VR platform this Sunday at 2:30 PT/5:30 ET/10:30 pm GMT+0 for Super Bowl XLIX.
Like all the sharable audio and video content on Altspace, which can be beamed from your personal in-game browser to any number of screens inside the common spaces for everyone to enjoy, country restrictions for streaming content will apply. This means that if you don’t have a US-based IP address, you won’t be able to watch the live-stream of the game with the rest of us.
Basic access to Altspace will be open for everyone from Jan. 30 to Feb. 1, so if you can’t figure out a way to see the game, you can still take part in some pre-game chats, or tweet directly from the private display homepage’s Twitter portal.
If you didn’t have a chance to get to Altspace’s open beta weekend just two weeks ago, now’s the perfect chance to pop your head into any of their chat rooms—small for quiet conversations or large enough to hold up to 100 avatars at once—and talk shop with VR podcasters, game devs, and other fellow VR enthusiasts. And don’t be surprised if you see a room full of floating robotic avatars nodding in agreement, or shaking their heads in disbelief at the idea of the Seahawks actually winning this year, because AltspaceVR translates your head movements to the avatar, allowing for an important, and oftentimes overlooked, nonverbal communication.
Even if you you’re without VR equipment, AltspaceVR will also run Rift-less, letting you enter the modernly decked out conference rooms and mingle spaces on a normal computer monitor.
Keep your eyes open for a new event theater that will be unveiled tonight too, because—and it’s just a guess—it’ll probably fit pretty well with this weekend’s Superbowl-themed access weekend!
