VRLA are pulling out all the stops for their Spring Expo, due to take place March 22nd. The team behind the event have just announced that WEVR (formerly Wemo Labs) will be demo’ing their SteamVR creation TheBlu: Encounter to attendees of the show on the new HTC Vive headset.
It’s strange to think that, just a few weeks ago, no one had heard of the HTC Vive and few knew of Valve’s plans to unleash a VR shaped juggernaut on this year’s GDC conference. A select few of course were in the loop, and had been for some time. Developers with early access to Lighthouse and prototype headsets have been beavering away for months on content designed to show off Valve’s vision of virtual reality in the home. One such developer is WEVR (formerly Wemo Labs).

The developer is best known for it’s underwater experience TheBlu for Oculus Rift and latterly the Gear VR headsets. It’s a tranquil, dreamlike affair which demonstrates the calming potential of virtual reality. The team produced a special edition of TheBlue for the SteamVR platform, developed specifically for the HTC Vive that brings you face to face with an 80 foot blue whale – just a little something to bring home the epic potential virtual reality has to demonstrate scale and awe in an experience – it’s called ‘The Encounter’ and Ben Lang was most taken with it after trying it at GDC.
WEVR will be at VRLA Spring Expo, due to kick off on March 22nd at the JW Marriott LA Live Hotel in Los Angeles. The team will be on hand to demo ‘The Encounter’ to everyone that wants to (so, literally everyone then). Pick up ticket to the Spring Expo over at the VRLA site right here.
