Rupert Murdoch, CEO of 21st Century Fox and News Corp, had a chance to try on Samsung’s Gear VR recently. NextVR introduced Murdoch to their 360 degree NASCAR recordings.
Business mogul Rupert Murdoch sat down with NextVR recently to review some of the company’s live 360 degree content using Samsung’s Gear VR. Murdoch saw a selection from the company’s recordings from the pit of NASCAR XFINITY Series and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races, among other content.
NextVR, a company centered around delivering 360 degree live and recorded VR video, have also worked in concert with Fox Sports to test out their VR video solution with NHL and NBA games.
“We got a call from Fox Sports that Mr. Murdock would like to meet. We of course made ourselves available asap. He reviewed a great deal of our content, including NASCAR that we streamed LIVE with Fox Sports,” NextVR Co-founder David Cole told Road to VR. “The subject of the meeting is confidential as is the outcome… but… as evidenced by the meeting, VR’s importance has reached the highest level within FOX.”

This isn’t Murdoch’s first tango with VR however. The mass media business magnate has also had his head in Oculus’ HD Prototype during a demo of the Game of Thrones VR experience ‘Ascend the wall’ back at PAX East 2014.
Considering Murdoch’s most recent trip into VR, we wouldn’t be surprised if some more of Fox Sports broadcasts didn’t get in on the 360 fun, which include broadcasting rights to the NFL, MLB, UFC, Soccer, NCAA, and Golf.
