August 14th kicks of the SHVR Vive Jam, a collaboration between HTC and the Shanghai VR Meetup to bring teams from across China for a weekend of rapid prototyping room-scale VR experiences for the SteamVR platform. Road to VR signs on as the official media sponsor of the SHVR Vive Jam and will be on-site to bring reports from the event in Shanghai.

As the virtual reality industry grows, it does so across the globe. From North America to Europe, to Asia, the VR ‘fevr’ knows no bounds. As elsewhere, in China virtual reality is rapidly heating up and grassroots organizations are rising to codify enthusiasm and new business opportunities.

SHVR’s recent meetup filled the Transist Labs venue to capacity.

SHVR is one such organization which has been working in Shanghai to focus growing interest by holding meetups and other community events. Coming off of a bustling gathering of VR enthusiasts hosted by SHVR co-organizer Transist Labs, the group’s next event is a collaboration with HTC to put the ‘room-scale’ Vive platform in the hands of talented developers to see what they come up with after a weekend of experimentation.

With support from HTC, the SHVR Vive Jam will be China’s largest VR jam, bringing together the best game developers, designers, 3D artists, and animators from across China for unprecedented access to the HTC Vive development kit and SteamVR. AMD is also a partner of the event and will be providing some of its latest VR technology to enable developers at the jam. Registration for the SHVR Vive Jam remains open through Monday the 10th.

The three day event will start with teams arriving for an introduction to room-scale game design and a hands-on with the Vive system to understand its capabilities, with the following two days for rapid development (meals included!). The team judged with the best experience will walk away with their own HTC Vive development kit.

Road to VR joins up with the SHVR Vive Jam as the event’s official media sponsor. We’ll be reporting from the event in Shanghai and co-producing several developer log videos to bring the action directly to you. Stay tuned!
