POLLEN Steam Greenlit in Record Time, Gets New Gameplay Trailer

Mindfield Games‘ immersive and eerie first person adventure POLLEN has been Steam ‘greenlit’ in just 36 hours described as “record breaking” time by the studio. So, to celebrate, they’ve launched a brand new gameplay trailer.

We’ve been tracking the progress of Mindfield Games’ promising first person adventure game POLLEN for a while now. The title intrigued from the off, with it’s melancholic nods to Sci-fi movie classics such as 2001: A Space Odyssey and Solaris and the developer’s attention to the title’s gameworld. Now, the studio is celebrating being greenlit via Valve’s early access portal Steam Greenlight in what they term a “record breaking” 36 hours.

“We’ve been blown away with the feedback from the Steam community, the overwhelming positive comments and the fact that P.O.L.L.E.N has been Greenlit in a record-breaking 36 hours”, said Olli Sinerma, Co-Founder of Mindfield Games. “In P.O.L.L.E.N we chose to do first person virtual reality where you will no longer be playing a game – you are inside it. The 86% of yes votes on Greenlight shows that people want to experience this too”

Road to VR‘s Scott Hayden recently got to sit down with the team to find out more about the development of POLLEN (above) and after a hands-on session at Gamescom in Cologne this year had this to say of his experience:

Every square inch of the demo level, from the company-owned food stuffs like the generic ‘BEER’ brought to you by Rama, to the errant clipboards and notebooks holding clues to whatever it is that happened on the Titan research station, promise to immerse you into Pollen’s alternate universe.

Nuke a beer in the 1990s-style microwave, or take Polaroids of long-hollowed tomato soup cans, you never know what will lead to the next clue to understanding what happened, and why some corners of the base are warped by what can only be described as a ‘zebra-striped time phase’. And if you’re baffled by any of that, then we’re in the same boat, because Pollen truly requires close attention to the little things to move the narrative forward

POLLEN it set to hit home early 2016 for PC to coincide with the launch of the first wave of consumer VR headsets, Valve’s HTC manufactured Vive and Oculus’ Rift. A release is also planned for Sony’s PlayStation VR platform later in 2016.

Based in the UK, Paul has been immersed in interactive entertainment for the best part of 27 years and has followed advances in gaming with a passionate fervour. His obsession with graphical fidelity over the years has had him branded a ‘graphics whore’ (which he views as the highest compliment) more than once and he holds a particular candle for the dream of the ultimate immersive gaming experience. Having followed and been disappointed by the original VR explosion of the 90s, he then founded RiftVR.com to follow the new and exciting prospect of the rebirth of VR in products like the Oculus Rift. Paul joined forces with Ben to help build the new Road to VR in preparation for what he sees as VR’s coming of age over the next few years.
