Waltz of the Wizard Trailer Brings the Magic to VR and Motion Controllers

Asunder developer Aldin Dynamics has been creating VR content since 2013 and they’re back, this time with an experience designed to demonstrate the magic of virtual reality by gifting your virtual self wizard’s powers.

Aldin Dynamics have now been invested in building compelling VR since the days of the DK1 and they’re early projects, like Asunder:Earthbound were not short of ambition, especially as the development community grappled with building the rules behind cinematic VR experiences.

Now, the team has unveiled a new project designed to explore a surprisingly unexplored facet of virtual reality, magical powers. Built from the ground up for both virtual reality and motion controllers, Waltz of the Wizard is a Unity powered title puts you in a medieval setting, surrounded by all manner of magical paraphernalia. The trailer shows a disembodied pair of lifelike hands mixing potions, casting magical trails in the air and generally just having a bit of a laugh with magical powers.

According to Aldin, Waltz of the Wizard is:

…designed ground-up for tracked VR input (also known as motion controllers), enabling players to use their own hands to interact with the virtual world.Whether to pick up objects, wield magical powers, use tools or interact with characters; Aldin seeks to utilize natural input and virtual reality to its fullest. The experience and its environment is designed to accommodate both room-scale and stationary gameplay modes.

Curiously, according to the title’s MadeinUnity page, the title is in development for the Oculus Rift, PlayStation VR and (somewhat mysteriously) ‘Other VR’ the HTC Valve engineered Vive. What we can say is that the experience looks fantastic fun and we want to get our hands into it right now.

His obsession with graphical fidelity over the years has had him branded a ‘graphics whore’ (which he views as the highest compliment) more than once and he holds a particular candle for the dream of the ultimate immersive gaming experience. Having followed and been disappointed by the original VR explosion of the 90s, he then founded RiftVR.com to follow the new and exciting prospect of the rebirth of VR in products like the Oculus Rift. Paul joined forces with Ben to help build the new Road to VR in preparation for what he sees as VR’s coming of age over the next few years.
