Minority Media have released a new trailer to celebrate the forthcoming launch of its time-travelling, subterranean adventure title Time Machine VR.
From the makers of critical hit indie game Papo & Yo, Time Machine VR has you piloting the titular flying time machine as you traverse Jurassic era timelines searching for DNA to help unlock a cure to a contemporary plague which threatens to wipe out civilisation.
The developers claim TMVR, which is in development for both the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift headsets, will allow players to explore the primordial sea, scanning “scientifically-sound” creatures.
“VR triggers responses from our brains that are as visceral as those we have in real life,” said Minority CEO, Vander Caballero. “We can now create a new kind of game that inspires a true sense of wonder in players. Shooting and blowing stuff up is not wonderful in VR; it doesn’t match the thrill of seeing a living dinosaur face-to-face. This is what drove us during the making of Time Machine VR. We want to put people in a world that evokes wonder as much as adrenaline. This is the beginning of a new era for games, and we’re excited to be a part of it.”
Patrick Harris, Minority Media’s lead game designer, spoke to Road to VR‘s Kent Bye last year about the company’s attention to scientific detail, especially in relation the dinosaurs you encounter. You can check out that discussion in detail here.
Minority Media are bringing their made-for-VR title to GDC this year where attendees will be able to go hands-on with a sneak preview of the title. The title, which has been on Steam Early Access since last year, will come to the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive in April. In the mean time, check out the Time Machine VR on Steam here.
