Ubisoft’s upcoming VR multiplayer game Star Trek: Bridge Crew is delayed again, this time to May 30th. The good news? Ubisoft is letting you choose the good ol’ NCC-1701 from ‘The Original Series’ (TOS) so you can play solo as captain, or as an officer in a crew of up to four online players.

Star Trek: Bridge Crew was originally slated for a November 29th, 2016 launch date, and then later pushed back to March 14th, 2017, with Ubisoft studio Red Storm Entertainment citing that the delay was necessary to bring “the best game experience possible at launch.” The game is now slated to release on PlayStation VR, HTC Vive, and Oculus Rift on May 30th. No reason was given for the delay.

Also announced today on Ubisoft’s blog, the Enterprise is going to be available in the game’s ‘Ongoing Voyages’ mode, which features procedurally generated solo and co-op missions.

We had a chance to pilot the Aegis at E3 last year, and while it was a fun co-op experience that requires mastery of your individual station and the ability to communicate, the thought of being able to settle into TOS captain’s chair and melodramatically order Spock to clean up the scotch you spilled is nearly as intoxicating as scotch you just spilled. Role-playing communities, like those that play the unofficial live-action game Artemis, are going to relish in the chance to play in what appears to be a faithful reconstruction of the NCC-1701’s bridge in VR.

Star Trek: Bridge Crew’s Enterprise was developed in close cooperation with CBS Corporation’s worldwide licensing and merchandising unit CBS Consumer Products, the rights holders of the Star Trek franchise.

“The original U.S.S. Enterprise is such an iconic part of the franchise,” says David Votypka, senior creative director at Red Storm Entertainment. “The adventures and relationships that took place on the ship are a special part of Star Trek history, so we were determined to give players the opportunity to create their own adventures and stories on this classic ship.”

As an old Star Trek geek I cannot wait for this…. I really think co-operative games like this and the sub one recently shown are a really good use of VR and go way beyond simple shooters and PVP play…

    • ummm…

dude, im gutted. I was hoping for this one soon as well. this may be the game that brings us together – to go where no internet trolls have gone before.

I loved what we saw at E3 but really loved getting into the action at PAX West. We were the only crew to rescue all of the survivors they said and I was acting as pilot. The ship was slow to respond at times but the thrill and immersion were great and I loved being able to pilot the ship towards two attacking Klingon ships so the other crew could angle the shields and beam out survivors behind us, while we shielded the front of the ship and took on the bad guys.

I really wish they’d stop trying to make the reboot universe happen. IT’S NOT GONNA HAPPEN. No one wants the “Aegis”, we want the TOS bridge, or the TNG bridge, or the VOY bridge. Not some trumped up Apple store looking bridge with bad costumes and whacky cannon.

I love Star Trek but have no nostalgia for it. I would be just as happy on the new movie set as I would the old TV show set. Or a completely new imagining.

      • ummm…

        blasphemy.

    • Get Schwifty!

Well, ST is not really ST once the influence of Roddenberry was lost. He would never have gone in for this constant warfare theme that ST has become, that was not his vision. I loved ST:II WoK, but in way it ruined the franchise in the long run.

      • ummm…

thats a freaking awesome point. i dont watch the new movies, but i watch me some TNG, DS9 and Voyager on netflix everyday SON!

      • Brandon Smith

That is indeed a very interesting point. What people who pine for the TNG era of star trek tend to want isn’t quite what Star Trek truly is meant to be. .. and I may be in the camp. I tend to prefer, for instance, DS9 stories over TNG stories.

    • C.P. Garcia

Huh? Are u aware the new Star Trek movies are have done SIGNIFICANTLY better then the originals. Even adjusted for inflation. The 2009 Star Trek is the #1 Star Trek movie of ALL time.. So i would say.. it has “happened”.

      • ummm…

yeah but that doesn’t mean that hardcore fans like the new ones. im a TNG, Voyager and DS9 guy. all the rest are useless. im living in the past man, in the past.

        • Jeremiah

Me too, most days I watch an episode or more from those particular three series, never gets old.

    • ummm…

      we want TNG, full stop!

    • Aaron

Oh hell no. I’ll take the next generation but you can keep your star trek vagina ship.

      • Strawb77

        deep throat 9 anyone?

  • Jeremiah

I’d rather play on the bridge of the TNG’s Enterprise, DS9’s Defiant or Voyager, I suppose they will be dlc /sigh.

  • JustNiz

Come on its UbiSoft. Its far more likely the actual reason for the delay was something to do with the creation of a new, even more abusive DRM framework that they will be sure to be crowbarring into your PC along with this game. I will probably buy this game (through steam) but I will immediately return it for full refund the moment it starts installing its own storefront/always-on drm server app/whatever.

  • Strawb77

something like voyager with a defined beginning and end would suit me.
just wandering around ad infinitum would bore me rigid [yes, elite dangerous, i`m talking about you].
in space, nobody can hear you yawn..
