As part of the Steam Summer Sale, HTC is offering a rare $50 discount on the Vive headset, along with a $50 Steam gift card to capitalize on VR deals during the sale. The bundle also includes the recently released Star Trek: Bridge Crew, and two older VR games.

If you’re looking to buy a Vive, this is likely the best official deal you’re going to find before the holiday season. HTC has been rather protective of the $800 price of the Vive, telling us recently that they believe the headset justifies the cost by offering the leading room-scale experience.

The Steam Sale Vive discount, which is valid through July 7th, drops the cost of the headset by $50 and nets you a $50 Steam gift card to buy content. The package also includes a one month free trial of Viveport Subscription, and a bundle of VR games: Star Trek: Bridge Crew (2017)Richie’s Plank Experience (2016), and Everest VR (2016).

HTC says it’s a $928 value for $750. This particular sale is only available directly from HTC, and the company says the specifics of the deal may vary by region.

As part of the Steam Summer Sale, HTC is offering sales on a number of Vive Studios titles, and is also reflecting those deals on their own Viveport platform:

I’m very hesitant to buy a vive right now, knowing that there will come a new revision which will have the better lighthouse basestations and propably the better headstrap..

    • Get Schwifty!

Especially considering HTC is not dropping their prices at all. When you factor in the strap, basesetations and the improved controllers… it’s nuts to pay full price currently if a major revision is within a year.

I find myself drawn to getting another Vive (my third) as soon as new PC is built

But there is too much exciting news of new steam VR systems (LG, 2nd gen Vive) coming to market, new base stations, the audio strap, intel / tp cast wireless to ditch tether….

…not to mention big jumps in display panel tech for 2nd gen, and lets not forgot Valve. Who could suddenly drop without any warning a new bundle with their Knuckles controllers and VR games….any blow us all away?

Unless I saw a significant price drop on the HTC Vive as it is, i’d prefer to sit it out until Q3/4 2018 or whenever the new tech lands

Sad but true. 800-500=300. And that will be normal, acceptable price for gaming accessory. Now it is just insane (!), and shows that they just don’t care about VR for masses.
