Borderlands 2 VR (2018) is finally headed out of PSVR exclusivity today, with the game’s Steam page ready to give PC VR headset users a crack at the VR port of the popular looter shooter.

Update (October 22nd, 2019): The Borderlands 2 VR Steam page is only moments away from letting users with HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, or Valve Index into the game’s massive world.

Update (September 23rd, 2019): Gearbox Software and 2K Games updated Borderlands 2 VR Steam page over the weekend, now showing an October 22nd launch date for the game.

The original article, which discusses the free DLC coming to the game at launch, follows below.

Original Article (August 31st, 2019): At PAX West yesterday, Gearbox Software announced that the free DLC campaigns coming to PSVR in September will feature a bevy of content including: Captain Scarlet and Her Pirate’s Booty, Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage, Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt, and Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep, according to Eurogamer.

Additionally, you’ll also be able to play Creature Slaughter Dome, the Mechromancer and Psycho classes, all five Headhunter DLC packs, both Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Packs, and the Vault Hunter Heads and Skin packs.

And yes, the so-called Bad Ass Mega Fun pack (BAMF pack) DLC is also headed to Borderlands 2 VR for PC.

Other than that, there’s not much else to go on at this time for the PC version. Neither its publisher 2k Games nor developer Gearbox Software has mentioned which platform it will land on, be it Steam, Epic Games Store, Oculus Store or otherwise. We assume the standard SteamVR-compatible headsets apply, although it hasn’t been specified yet.

It’s also unknown whether it will bring co-op play to the game, as it’s sorely lacking in the PSVR version. We’re hoping for yes, although it’s possible the studios want to maintain basic feature parity with the PSVR version (pre-DLC).

You can play all the borderlands games now in vr using vorpx but no motion control use.Jesusavesouls!

    • Krzysztof Kiersznicki

yeah but in vorpx i want to vomit after 10 mins ;[

      • Michael Hill

I haven’t tried the vorpx solution but I did play this game on a stereo 3d HMD using Nvidias 3d solution and it worked really good, better than almost all my other games. I’ll stick with what I have unless this new version includes co-op.

        • J.C.

Yep, co-op is the sticking point for me as well. I’ve already PLAYED all this content, the only thing that would convince me to go through it again would be doing so with friends. The borderlands series was never really meant to be played solo, why take it out of the VR version?

        • JesuSaveSouls

So they have software to port non vr games into 3d hmd and is it with the software of nvidia ?

          • Michael Hill

Yes it’s Nvidia’s drivers for 3D monitors, 3D Vision, which works with games with Direct3D support. I used an Avegant Glyph HMD instead of a monitor and 3D glasses though, the software recognizes and uses it like 3D monitor. Games without good support can be further modded by a program called 3DFix which applies mods from the 3D community (3Dmigoto, Helix mod) to render the 3D or fix shadows, reflections, decals, particles, ect that don’t show up right.

          • Wildtz0r

Nvidia killed off 3D vision support.

          • JesuSaveSouls

So on the oculus or quest with vrdesktop can you make non vr games just 3d sbs so I can activate the 3d sbs option in vr desktop ?

          • Bob Smith

            yes.

      • JesuSaveSouls

True and I don’t know why they can’t implement snapturn.

      • Jarilo

Sounds like a personal problem. Time to get some Cobra VR legs.

    • Jarilo

+ the Co-op works. Still, the motion controls will be totally worth it. Borderlands 2 does work great with VorpX though.

  • Rosko

    great news

  • Yay!

  • Wouldn’t be fun without my buddy. We’ve played all of the Borderlands together. A lack of Co-OP could be a deal killer.

What is the price for all of this? Are we talking about a reasonable $30 to $40, or something more crazy like $60? The game is no spring-chicken, it’s pretty old.

    • MeowMix

On PSVR it launched at $50. I expect the same for the STEAM launch of the game.

  • GrimmyReaper

I don’t see why they don’t just add support to Borderlands 2 itself rather than sell it as its own game.
And if they are so desperate for money, fine. Sell it as DLC for Borderlands 2.

  • asshat

as a huge bl2 fan and vr fan, I dont think anyone will get this tbh.
Its lacking some key bl2 aspects for the sake of vr that kinda ruin the game.

bl is hugely a multyplayer game in a single player game. you really get 4x as far with friends then you ever would alone and everyone playing will have already played the story 1-10x.

So even as a huge bl fan, meh

  • johann jensson

Well, at least they’re releasing one of the big games (even if older) as VR title. I wish more studios would do this. Take the last successful title, do a port or even a VR makeover (Skyrim VR style or better) and release it to the hungry public. Instant success, and profit without much expense.

    • Yaniv Ben David

Poor port and single player… Better not release it at all

  • lloydbeatz

is this a paid DLC, a free update or a whole new purchased game? since I already own Borderlands 2.

    • mitchellhamilton

Based on the Steam page, I’d say it’s going to be a whole new purchase (but with all the DLC included at least…)

  • antonio mora

14 reviews, all negative … and they want $50?

    Err…ok.

    • ShiftyInc

If you own an Oculus Rift it seems your fine, anything else and your going to be having issues.

    • RickityRick

      Good catch. Take that borderlands!

  • Marcin Stachowiak

£40 for borderlands 2, where I have already done 500hrs and no multiplayer? It’s a sad joke.

    • Yaniv Ben David

      Indeed

  • Andrew Jakobs

What the hell, if you read the reviews, they all say the scale is off, fisheye view… You can’t be serious that the developers didn’t have those problem too.. WTF did they do, haven’t they even tested it themselves? Most ofcourse are just easy fixes.. so hopefully they release patch real soon, but this is a patch that shouldn’t have been necessary as it wasn’t playable in VR from the start.. OR, it’s a specific problem with some users who maybe have tools like SteamVR advanced and it might not play well..

Also it’s very annoying you have to pay fullprice if you already own the original game, it should have been a DLC with a much MUCH lower price (max $15).

  • Jarilo

    What a dumpster fire

  • –Will–

Ouch, was looking forward to this, but now I’m so glad I didn’t buy it.
Won’t touch with a 10-foot pole until/unless they fix it–certainly not at that price.
An object lesson in how *not* to do a VR conversion.

  • JesperL

So?? They assigned 1 man to do the port, and all he had was a Rift? Or what?

  • sebrk

Maybe they did this on purpose so more people buy their new flat 3D game. Or whomever was in charge of putting this together should find him/herself a new job. How is it even possible to release something like this 2019?

  • Wow, so much hate. Bought it last night. Only had time to play for 30-40 minutes. Had a great damn time, didn’t get sick, handling felt good. Maybe y’all with game development and coding degrees have room to complain, but I had a great time. I’ve been sitting over the buy it now button for a year, waiting for it to light up.

    • david vincent

You have no clue about the situation, don’t you ?

      • My beef is the lack of multiplayer. That is utter bs.

      • Also, it seems because I have the oculus, I’m not riddled with the issues everyone is having.
