‘Onward’ is Coming to Oculus Quest July 30th with PC VR Cross-play, Trailer Here

Downpour Interactive and Coatsink today announced that Onward, the VR tactical shooter, is coming to Oculus Quest on July 30th.

Downpour Interactive founder Dante Buckley first announced the studio was making a Quest port of Onward back at last year’s ESL VR League Season three championship, stating that the game would would feature cross-play with both Oculus Rift and SteamVR headsets.

The studio has made good on its word, and in the meantime also included Coatsink, the studio behind the Esper VR series and Shadow Point (2019), as publisher.

“I’m incredibly excited for Onward to come to the Oculus Quest: to have players be inspired by the freedom of the platform while at the same time experiencing the realism and immersion that Onward brings to the table. And I think I speak for my whole team when I say we’re excited to see our players get their hands on the game after almost a year of development,” said Buckley.

The Quest version is said to include all of the game’s standard features, including solo and co-op game modes, and multiplayer battles with up to ten players. Bringing a greater focus on realism, Onward doesn’t include mini-maps, or crosshairs, as players rely on real-world communication, shooting, and navigation skills to accomplish objectives.

The release on Quest will, like its PC VR versions, be available in Early Access when it first launches on the Oculus Store on July 30th, priced at $25.

There’s no time frame on when the game is said to leave EA, as the studio says it still needs to add “finishing touches, improving stability, optimisations to the game’s source code, and general polish.”

      Its pretty disappointing that so many quest games look like this e.g. remove the lighting, remove the shaders, massively downgrade the textures. Even unreal tournament running a 64mb savage 4 (with s3tc) had way better texture quality

        It’s running on a snapdragon 835 and targeting a 72hz refresh rate, I’m actually very impressed with whys the devs are doing with the Quest

  Pavlov VR is the best such game. Lots of people playing, great maps and lots of custom new maps, feels realistic (gun look, operation, shooting)

    “feels realistic” ? yeah … you sound exactly like someone who has never tried Onward lol. If anything … there’s nothing realistic about Pavlov. That doesn’t mean the game’s bad. If you’d like some quick casual run and gun I guess it’s your thing. But so far there ain’t nothing even close to what Onward offers. The game mechanic , the guns , the handling system … It could be still played as a casual run and gun game in different mods or even offline with bots, but it’s tactical 5v5 pvp aspect is where this game shines. It’s being meant to be played this way, and once you master it and better yet have a team/friends to play with and develop different strats – it’s so satisfying.

      Contractors is a casual crap cheap game. Pavlov is amazing in every aspect. Do not try to say I am wrong, because you won’t succeed. Onward gameplay for hours can be seen on youtube. No need to buy this!

You can crap on almost any VR game by looking at it on youtube, and should I explain to you why that is ? I guess not (worth my time). You can stick to Pavlov all you want, but don’t try to fool all those who’s just getting into VR as you certainly won’t fool us who have tried all the games lol

        :slapsforhead: In terms of resolution – sure, but in terms of texture models, and overall when compared to any modern pancake (non VR) game, VR looks like old school and the reason for this is hardware limitations. So basically take any of those VR FPS and compare it to a non-VR modern game and there you go. The true magic in VR comes when you’re with your HMD on , not watching on YT or whatever. The presence , the interactions – only then you can appreciate a VR game and it’s only then when you know why you’re willing to sacrifice all the fancy visuals of modern games. So my argument stands…. just because you watched Onward VR on YT and you didn’t liked it – means nothing.

  Hopefully this shows Pavlov off to what it really is, crap. The way the devs have allowed the modded game modes like TTT and Zombie to completely overrun the base game on PC is disgusting, I bought a military shooter, not to babysit kids in pathetic game modes

  My favorite is Onward. It’s like Ghost Recon, where Pavlov is like Counter-Strike and Contractors like Call of Duty. Sort of. It’s slower paced, more tactical, more realistic, but also with the best weapons handling and mechanics, very easy to use all the different attachments and gadgets in super intuitive ways.

  Pavlov VR is the best one. Guns feel very real – holding, reloading, the look of guns, great sound when these shoot. Lots and lots of new maps, lots of people playing. Pavlov VR is great. Contractors is … crap looking and sounding game. Very “arcade” like. I refunded it. OnWard wants to install monitoring software on PC so no no.

  Onward is the most tactical, the TTK is really low, and you get hit you very likely to die and sit out the round. PC-Quest crossplay too!
  
  Pavlov in my opinion Is the worst out of the three, TTK is really high, way to high, arcade like game gameplay, and the guns don’t feel good to use at all, it’s the most popular and played on PC purely because of the modded game modes, like Zombies and TTT, take those game modes away and you are left with a player base of a similar size to Onward and Contractors. No PC-Quest either
  
  Contractors is my favourite VR FPS, It sits nicely between Onward realism and Pavlovs arcade gameplay, the TTK feels perfect too, nice map sizes, good selection of weapons (can’t fault the other games in this regard either) PC-Quest too!

They should first remove “Easy Anti-Cheat” crap from their PC installer. I bought the game few days ago, excited to play as I like Pavlov VR. Installed it and noticed it wants to install a monitoring crap on my machine, with administrator rights. Never consent to such requests. Product refunded and bye bye. Pavlov VR is better, does not force you to install potential spyware crap with admin rights.

This is huge news, and importantly thery are 1st out of the big three (Pavlov Contractors Onward) to bring the title to the Quest store.
