Crytek’s Long-awaited ‘The Climb 2’ Coming to Oculus Quest on March 4th

23

Crytek announced last year that The Climb (2016) would be getting its long-awaited sequel sometime during the holiday season 2020. Although that launch window has come and gone, The Climb 2 is now finally set for a March 4th release date.

Update (February 23rd, 2021): After missing its holiday 2020 release window, The Climb 2 is now suddenly right around the corner. Crytek today announced a March 4th release date for the game which is expected to remain a Quest exclusive. A price has yet to be announced.

Oculus confirmed the sequel will include “15 new maps” [our emphasis], which suggests The Climb 2 may include some maps from the original title. We’ve reached out to Oculus for clarity.

The Climb 2 is also said to introduce “objects like ropes, containers, ladders, and climbing equipment that react to the player’s weight,” along with unlockables like gloves, watches, and wristbands. We’ve also spotted two screenshots of the game we hadn’t seen previously:

The original article, which covered the game’s announcement, follows below.

Original Article (September 16th, 2020): Dubbed The Climb 2, the first-person rock climbing game is said to let you explore “a new city setting and exhilarating new maps with breathtaking views.”

More from the game’s description:

Ascend grand peaks, navigate vast caves, climb skyscrapers, and discover hidden shortcuts as you find your path to the top. Compete with friends and conquer leaderboards in asynchronous multiplayer modes. From exploring mountain environments to scaling urban settings, feel the rush of climbing without ropes, and experience breathtaking vistas as you scale new heights.

Here’s all of the screenshots that were shared with Road to VR so far:

Originally launched as an Oculus Rift exclusive in 2016, The Climb dazzled with detailed visuals and kept us grasping for the next ledge thanks to interesting gameplay mechanics.

We gave it a [3/5] in our initial 2016 review, although that was admittedly before it had Touch controls and true 360 room-scale tracking.  The game has since made its way to Oculus Quest.

Neither Facebook nor Crytek have mentioned whether The Climb 2 is also headed to Rift, so for now it’s probably best to consider it a Quest platform exclusive.

Only game I’d like to play…but not on Facebook’s hardware.

      So sit on the sofa!!

You replied to the wrong guy

I really liked the idea of climb but when i played it, it was pretty boring more like a side game. I’m not sure climbing a skyscraper will make it more interesting. Also the Immersion was ruined by the feeling of standing on a solid floor.

I’m hoping that they have a mode that translates well to a vertical climber. I bought a health club climber machine a while ago cheap at a thrift shop and I’ve been waiting for an app that has a mode that suits a vertical climber for a while and the skyscaper seem like it may (fingers crossed). It would be a cardio workout monster.

Man, I wished they would update Robinson The Journey to take advantage of newer headsets and certainly some extra care to different controllers (and the latest cry-engine enhancements). It’s still one of the better VR games I’ve played.

    • namekuseijin

man, you played very few VR games…

      • Andrew Jakobs

No I haven’t played very few VR games, I just like the game very much. I like walking around scanning creatures, and playing with the little rex, loved doing the puzzles and stuff. And it’s just visually very beautiful, if only it would just use the native resolution of newer headsets.

    Looks like Austin, TX.

Quest exclusive = Rift Discontinued, meaning it will work on the Rift + Link which = Captured on PC.

    • disdude12857

I’m not entirely sure if this is what you mean but you can’t play quest games with link so no, there is a pc version of the game

  • Ed j

This looks stunning. Just bought my son a quest 2 for christmas after hearing so many amazing things about it. He really wanted one! So im hoping he lets me have a go!!

  • TechPassion

    Wow. Great news.

  • TechPassion

Nice! The more games, the better.

certainly doesn’t look like Quest 2 graphics. Quite a misleading advert. If it doesn’t come out on PC that’s pretty bad as clearly a PC version exists to capture the higher resolution graphics for the advert.

    • Orogogus

Games are developed on PCs even when they’re exclusive to Quests or consoles. They could easily just be snapping pictures from their development PCs, and put “captured on PC” there so people are aware it’s not going to look like that on their Quest 2.

The game’s page only says coming to the Quest, and Oculus only has it in their Quest section. That’s not very encouraging.

The Climb was a decent VR game but come on, Crytek, you can do much more abitious than that…

    • namekuseijin

I mean, they just remastered Crysis… and no VR component at all…

it’s like a racing game without wheel support. amateurish…

  • kakek

    It’s an oculus game.
I would bet it’s quest exclusive. Oculus has discontinued PC-only headsets, and and only released quest exclusive titles sonce Quest 2 release.

    • User_Name_24601

Um… Asguard’s Wrath requires a PC to run.

      • yuhh

um… Asgard’s Wrath was made before Quest 2.

        • kakek

Wasn’t that before quest 2 release though ?
I know they develloped PC game BEFORE. They just stopped, and decided to go full mobile when they released the quest 2.

    • gothicvillas

      Its coming to pcvr too
