Alien Isolation launched on October 7th to mostly positive reviews. It was heralded by many as the first Alien game done right. The survival-horror title follows Amanda Ripley, Ellen Ripley’s daughter (the protagonist of the films), on her quest to find her missing mother. Along the way she is stalked by the terrifying Xenomorph creature that the franchise is known for.

There’s a curious story between the Oculus Rift and Alien Isolation. It all started back during E3 2014 when developer The Creative Assembly showed off the game for the first time with Rift support at Oculus’ booth. While reactions to this VR demo were widely positive, it turned out to be quite the tease, as the developer later confirmed that the game would not ship with Rift support, and what was shown at E3 was merely a proof-of-concept.

It turns out that said proof-of-concept necessitated embedding Oculus Rift support within the game. The Creative Assembly (intentionally or not) neglected to remove the feature from the game, opting instead to simply switch it off, essentially hiding the option from users.

When the game launched last month, it wasn’t long before curious Rifters popped the hood and discovered that Oculus Rift DK2 support could be toggled on with relative ease.
