Cartoon Network unveiled a new VR experience on Tuesday which is slated to take you on a magical trip through three original VR shorts. To guide you is—who else—the soothing baritone of comedian/musician Reggie Watts.
Watts lends his voice to Gormlorm, a “traveling wizard of the multiverse” who has set up camp in a desert oasis.
Developed by Paper Crane Games, TwinSky Games, and Cartoon Network Studios, the patently Wattsian experience takes you on three journeys, each of which looks to deliver the sort of mind-bending trip only VR can legally provide in most jurisdictions:
Beyond Beeville – As an outcast one-winged bee, you must save your colony from impending collapse by teaming up with your pollen companion, Penny. Explore the garden, solve puzzles, and discover secrets beyond the hive.
Jest to Impress – You are trying out as jester of the King’s court. As jester-in-training, you are presented with a series of escalating props and puzzles. The more the King laughs, the more jealous his personal bard becomes. If your comedic acts fall flat, prepare to become dragon food.
Kosma Kwest – You have been summoned to the cosmic plane to become a potential replacement for Kosma, The Supreme Being, who is in desperate need of a vacation. Complete four metaphysical lessons of the cosmos and take your place on the celestial throne.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the experience was created as a collaboration between multiple animators and artists who developed the VR experience during a series of workshops at the Burbank studio’s VR lab.
Journeys VR is slated to arrive for free on Steam for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift on October 1st.
