Virtual pets have seen quite the revival since consumer VR took off nearly three years ago. As an early entrant back in 2016, Konrad the Kitten took some of the much beloved game mechanics from the classic hand-held digital pet Tamagotchi and imbued them into a friendly little kitty named Konrad.
In the new 2.0 update, which arrives today to all major VR headsets, Konrad is getting some little pals and a much bigger opportunity to bond with the star of the show.
Originally, one of the fundamental design aspects of the game was the Tamagotchi-style energy bar, which essentially let you level up you furry friend for about 20 minutes each day before Konrad ran out of juice. After that, the game would ask you to come back the next day,a PS blog post.
Konrad Kunze explains inIn the 2.0 update, once Konrad’s energy runs out, a band of precocious kitties arrive as night falls, making you and poor Konrad babysitters as you clean, feed and play with them. Once the night is over, Konrad’s energy bar is full again, giving you a new chance level up your little virtual buddy.
Kunze says that by leveling up Konrad, you’ll now unlock up to nine different cat friends, each of them with their own preferences in how they eat and play.
In addition, Konrad the Kitten now boasts a new world, ‘Snowy Valley’, which brings new interactive objects like a snowboard, snowman, and the chance to get into a snowball fight.
Konrad the Kitten is available on the PlayStation Store (PSVR), Steam (Vive, Rift, Windows VR) and the Oculus Store (Rift) for $15.
