Eden River HD Developer Teases Samsung Gear VR Projects with New Screenshots

Aaron Lemke, the developer behind audio-visual virtual reality experiences like Eden River HD and Opera Nova, has provided Road to VR with some new teaser screenshots of upcoming projects that are targeted at the Samsung Gear VR headset. Lemke is well known for relaxing VR experiences that are as much about the audio as they are the visuals.

Lemke, founder of the indie VR studio Unello Design, tells me he’s working on “a few” new projects for Samsung’s Gear VR. “Expect lots of serenity and binaural audio,” he said.

Based on the work he’s done for the Oculus Rift, Lemke’s style of VR experience seems well suited for the mobile platform. In Eden River HD, players float down a tranquil riverscape accompanied by Lemke’s own peaceful musical compositions. No input other than head movement is needed to control the game. Opera Nova, an experimental demo that Lemke revealed recently, has players watching an abstract sci-fi orchestra, where sounds emanate with 3D audio from visual effects present in the environment.

Both experiences are more slowly paced than many other virtual reality titles to date. This slower style could pair very well with Gear VR, where experiences are expected to be better served in small chunks rather than lengthy gaming sessions (for the sake of both the user’s comfort and the battery life of the device).

We’ll be looking forward to seeing (and hearing) what Lemke has in store.
