One of the finest virtual reality experiences around has just got a whole lot cheaper as Frontier Developments joins the holiday sale madness and slashes the price of it’s space epic Elite:Dangerous by 67% to just £9.99 ($15).
The seasonal retail holiday of Black Friday is upon us and the deals are starting already in full flow. Well, there’s a great offer for those virtual reality enthusiasts who haven’t yet picked up one of the finest VR experiences available, Frontier Developments have slashed the price of the Elite:Dangerous digital download by 67%, now down to £9.99 ($15) with the DVD edition down 57% to £12.99 (around$ 20).
Elite:Dangerous has been at the forefront of VR’s recent renaissance, being one of the first triple A titles to integrate Oculus Rift support from the early beta releases. We went hands on with the game just after the DK2’s release and I was suitably impressed with Frontier’s VR integration.

Currently, E:D‘s Oculus Rift support is currently deprecated, forcing users to switch between older Oculus runtime versions – apparently due to development difficulties with Oculus’ recent SDK changes. However, we understand VR support for both Oculus’ headset and Valve’s HTC manufactured Vive headset will be back soon and present and correct once the headsets reach retail next year.
I went hands on with the E:D at EGX 2015, you can read my impressions of that experience here.
