‘Everspace’ Promises Dazzling Space Combat, Heading for Kickstarter Success with VR Support

Everspace is an unapologetically accessible space shooter with some of the most dazzling visuals we’ve ever seen – currently on track to hit its Kickstarter target of 225k EUR. What’s more, the developers plan virtual reality support.

As of writing Everspace – a space combat game from the creators of the Galaxy on Fire series, Rockfish games –  is on its way to comfortably meet its 225,000 EUR target. Everspace is a space shooter which eschews the trappings of other space sims, Elite Dangerous being a particularly good example. Instead, the Rockfish team are focused on honing accessible, tight gameplay mechanics and pushing the envelope for graphics in the genre.

Frankly, that’s music to my ears. As someone with a chronically poor attention span, tearing around a strange galaxy shooting things, whilst being treated to a gloriously rendered universe, is exactly what I’m after. Freespace 2 is probably my favourite space shooter of all time and the recently released pre-alpha gameplay seems to peg Everspace of somewhat of a spiritual successor to that franchise.

Promising fast-paced and accessible action, supported by a non-linear single player campaign, Everspace does indeed seem to be the perfect antidote to the more ‘serious’ options out there. But that’s not to say there won’t be elements to get your teeth into. An ‘in-depth’ approach to ship levelling and upgrades and procedurally generated scenarios promise much to potentially keep you occupied.

More importantly of course, Rockfish will be bringing VR support to the game – although at this stage, precise details how that will take form are sorely lacking right now.

With 18 days left and 180k EUR already secured, success does seem like it’s on the horizon for Everspace. Head over to the Kickstarter campaign’s page to back the project. In the mean time, we’ll be keeping a close eye on how the game develops.
