At the latest SVVR Meetup, the organization announced that it will hold the first SVVR Conference & Expo in May. Exhibitors including Oculus VR and an estimated 400 attendees will gather at the Computer History Museum in California to experience and promote all things VR.
SVVR Grows Up
The world of virtual reality is moving incredibly quickly, this of course you know. But sometimes it’s difficult keep track of just how far things have moved in just the last 12 months. For me, finding out that the Silicon Valley Virtual Reality meetup (better known as SVVR) is now approaching it’s first birthday was an effective reality check. Karl Krantz launched the movement on May 16th 2013 with a collection of like-minded individuals gathering at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, CA for the inaugural event. It has since grown to become a leading light in the VR community and has attracted speakers, candid early presentations and feedback sessions from the VR industry.
To celebrate the occasion, Karl chose to announce the opening of a new chapter in the SVVR movement, their first Conference and Expo. The first Expo is to be held on May 19th and 20th and fittingly, the venue is again the Computer History Museum – the place where it all started. The site is doubly significant as the museum is home to the very first stereoscopic Head Mounted VR Display ‘The Sword of Damocles‘ created by legendary computer scientist Ivan Sutherland.
The event will hold capacity for 400 VR Developers and Entrepreneurs and will host a series of Keynotes, Panels and Tech Sessions. As well as all that there’ll be a show floor with room for up to 15 exhibitors. Oculus and Sixense have both committed to participating as exhibitors and there’ll be panelists and speakers from both companies.
