‘Garry’s Mod’ Sequel to Receive Virtual Reality Support

Rust developer Facepunch Studios, founded by developer Garry Newman, has confirmed that its founding game Garry’s Mod will receive virtual reality support – just don’t call it ‘Garry’s Mod 2’.

In an interview with PCGamesN, the founder of Facepunch studios told the website that they are indeed working on a sequel to the hugely popular Half Life 2 mod Garry’s Mod and that it will receive virtual reality support once it’s released.

Newman admitted the studio was working on the sequel when quizzed about any possible future price rise for the original:

We wouldn’t raise the price now, I mean we’re kind of working on a sequel, so it’d be stupid to the raise the price, really. It’s early days. We’re looking at having more VR stuff in it – that’s the big point of it. And it won’t be called Garry’s Mod 2.

Garry’s Mod isn’t really a game in any traditional sense, i.e. there is no logical narrative or progression, it’s primarily a very polished sandbox environment through which users can create environments or experiences using assets from any Source engine game (i.e. Half Life 2) you may have installed or by way of community sourced assets.

As to when we can expect a sequel to arrive, we’ll have to wait to find out, but the studio have said the existing Garry’s Mod will not receive support for VR.
