‘Ghost in the Shell: Arise’ PvP Shooter Comes to Bandai Namco’s VR Zone, Catch the Trailer Here

Bandai Namco’s Shinjuku-based VR Zone seems to have all the luck; there’s Mario Kart in VR, Dragon Ball Z in VR, and now Ghost in the Shell is making its way to the giant VR arcade this December too.

In a large-scale multiplayer arena, a max of 8 people can participate in a 4 vs 4 team battle where you can shoot it out using the Ghost in the Shell‘s iconic technology: optical camouflage, prosthetic body mods, cyberbrain and of course … guns.

The game is hosted in a 20m X 12m arena with what VR Zone calls “a highly sophisticated multi-person full body tracking system.” The experience appears to use a modified HTC Vive headset with a number of positionally tracked pieces including a tracked pistol, forearm and shin guards. The system uses PhaseSpace’s tracking tech instead of HTC’s Lighthouse system, which uses visible LED-based optical tracking. Wireless walking is achieved via backpack-mounted computers.

If you’re in the area, you can buy tickets here. The experience lasts about 30 minutes and costs 3,600 yen (about $32) on top of the normal entrance fee.

The Ghost in the Shell: Arise VR experience officially opens December 9th, so make sure to get tickets well in advance for launch day. We don’t have any correspondents in Japan, so we’ll likely be watching enviously from oceans away, only hoping one day the coolest Japanese IP makes its way to foreign shores.
