Into the Radius VR is a single-player VR shooter headed to Steam Early Access next month. Created by Estonia-based indie studio CM Games, the horror survival game promises a dark mix of horror, open-world exploration, realistic weapon handling, and plenty of post-soviet landscapes to play as backdrop to what we hope shapes up to be an intriguing story.
The game is coming to Steam Early Access on November 6th, supporting Vive, Rift and Index. The studio says the game should arrive at launch with the first story mission, including lore materials, tutorial, and features such as weapon repair and consumable items.
Here’s how CM Games describes it:
Life and death intertwine inside the Radius, lurking somewhere in the middle of everything is the answer to a question you can’t quite remember. Through the flickering memories of your tarnished life as a former resident of Pechorsk and now UNSPC specialist, your only means of survival is to stalk the strange and threatening zone and complete the missions assigned to you.
In the game you battle “deadly anomalies and bizarre entities” in what once was a quiet mining town. The ping of a Geiger counter betrays the truth of the abandoned area though, now a Chernobyl-esque exclusion zone completely restricted to the public.
CM Games says Into the Radius was inspired by the seminal sci-fi novel ‘Roadside Picnic’ by Soviet sci-fi authors Arkandy and Boris Strugatsky, and is mixed with the themes of Stalker, Stephen King, and the atmosphere of adventure game MYST (1993).
There’s a few ways to get a taste of the game before jumping into Early Access next month, namely an Into the Radius-themed VRChat world and beta access, granted by joining the game’s Discord server.
