Job Simulator, the virtual reality title by Owlchemy Labs, is coming to PlayStation VR. Announced at PlayStation Experience today, the title is now set to come to all three major headsets.
The ironically boring sounding Job Simulator is actually one of the early gems that’s revving up to launch on the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and now, Sony’s PlayStation VR.
Initially debuting at the reveal of the HTC Vive earlier this year, the title capitalizes on the motion tracked hand controllers of each of the aforementioned VR headsets by encouraging interaction with numerous in-game items. Rather than wielding futuristic weaponry or fantastical magic, Job Simulator gives people a chance to interact with everyday items in everyday places—all of which is interpreted in a cartoony style through the lenses of robots who attempt to recreate what it was like for humans to perform jobs before they were replaced. So far the developer has shown three stages—kitchen, office, and convenience store.
There’s lots to explore and experiment with and a definite sense of ‘I wonder what would happen if I…’, which the developers hope to fulfill with expected or perhaps comedically unexpected results.
As the initial version of Job Simulator was built for the HTC Vive and its 360 degree ‘room-scale’ tracking, developer Owlchemy Labs may need to make some adjustments for the game to be more playable with the more forward-facing tracking of the Oculus Touch controllers and PlayStation VR’s Move controllers, as turning fully around can easily occlude the controller tracking.
With no PlayStation VR release date more specific than Q2 2016, it is unclear exactly when Job Simulator will hit that platform, though we could reasonably expect it to be a launch title provided that the game is already shipping by that point on the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift which are due for earlier release.
