Leap Motion has announced that they’ll be hosting their second 3D Jam this year, a developer competition to spur the creation of experiences making use of the company’s motion input controller. Once again the company has laid out a $50,000 prize pool and this year they’ve dedicated more than half of that to AR/VR content.
The 2015 3D Jam launches on September 28th and will accept entries until November 9th, 2015 at 11:59:59 pm PST. While the company does have a strong focus on AR/VR for this developer jam, the Open Track also seeks applications aimed at other platforms including desktop, Android, and the Internet of Things.
While Leap Motion originally began as a desktop-oriented motion input controller, in the last few years the company has been focusing on using their device for immersive experiences. Last year Leap Motion released a VR Developer Mount to affix their compact hand-sensing controller to the Oculus Rift VR headset, allowing players to bring their hands into the game for VR, or the entire world at large (using pass-through camera functionality) for AR applications.
