Oval is an upcoming VR shooter that lets you create, edit and share your own levels. The game, which is slated to hit Steam Early Access June 8th, will support HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and Windows “Mixed Reality” VR headsets.

Created by indie studio Reactor Heart, the game emphasizes high-speed gameplay, something the studio says is accomplished “without motion-sickness thanks to Oval’s unique technology.”

We haven’t had a chance to go hands-on yet, so we can’t say for sure what tricks the game employs to make that claim, although the video appears to make use of elements such as contrails that lead to the left and right of you, which likely accomplishes more or less the same goal as having a fixed reference point like a cockpit.

One of the game’s main features is the ability to create, share and play community maps using the multiplayer level editor.

While no doubt early days for Oval, the game is said to feature a single competitive game mode the developers say “mixes seamlessly with our locomotion system.”
