New ‘Foxhole’ HTC Vive Concept Footage Released from The Virtual Dutchmen

The Virtual Dutchmen, a Netherlands based VR studio, has come out with a second video showing their HTC Vive concept Foxhole.

The team had originally planned to build a tower defense game, but opted to go for a ‘King of the Hill’ style of gameplay instead.

According to the video description, the game currently has rudimentary ‘brainless’ AI that feature tanks, jeeps, and warplanes—all making a mad dash for your foxhole.

Two gun types can be seen in the video—a minigun for aerial units and a larger tank for land units, which game developer Bart Kok admits is currently heavily overpowered.

the Steam VR controller asset fits in nicely, don’t you think?

Future versions may incorporate some pretty standard mechanics for tower defense games, like increasing difficulty with every wave of enemies, and gun/defense upgrades. Kok says that “in the end it will be total chaos: sh*t will hit the fan and you will get blobbed at some point,” and that “you’ll need to make good decisions about your upgrades.”

Although the concept was developed on a Razer Hydra, as the team doesn’t yet have a Vive dev kit in their possession, it was created in less then a day by Kok and his colleague Tim Moelard. We’ll be keeping out eyes on Foxhole, if only because it reminds us so damn much of the Beach Head 2000 coin-op HMD.
