Technical Illusions, the company behind the CastAR augmented reality glasses, have just revealed a new promo video showing their vision of an augmented home.

“We’re committed to not making “high concept” videos that most people do. For our Kickstarter we shot everything through the glasses! This time around we used CG for a higher production value, but don’t worry, all the demos in the video will be available for download soon so you can see that they look that way in real life,” writes the company on their most recent Kickstarter update.

Anyone else getting a HoloLens vibe?

CastAR took to Kickstarter, bringing in more than $1 million, back in 2013 and have been steadily improving on their interesting AR glasses ever since. The glasses are unique among AR headsets in that they use head-mounted projectors which shine the image onto a retroreflective material sitting somewhere in the world around you, rather than using a near-eye display.

Recently, the company began shipping out their early developer kits, which we got to check out at CES 2015 last month.

Those following the project closely will notice that the video makes no mention of the ‘AR/VR Clip-On’ that was mentioned in the Kickstarter campaign. The company says that the accessory will turn CastAR into a “true” AR/VR device by reflecting the projected light to the user’s eyes without the need for the retroreflective medium.

The last we heard about the AR/VR Clip-on comes from our time chatting with Technical Illusions at CES 2015:

Jeri’s doubling down on the [AR/VR Clip-on] now that other, required steps are complete. “As soon as I got the real projectors in my hands we immediately started working on the VR clips” Jeri tells me, “it’s still trial and error”—but she’s excited with the way things are headed.

The company is taking pre-orders for the CastAR glasses starting at $400.
