This morning, shortly after midnight EST, Oculus support sent out the following message:
We’re really excited about Oculus Connect, and we’re looking forward to meeting VR developers from all over the globe!
The application process still needs a bit more work, and we’re not ready to unveil it just yet. We’d like to ask for a little more patience while we polish the experience, and we’ll have more information soon so stay tuned.
Thanks for your continued support and your passion for everything VR!
So far there’s no additional information on when registration for the company’s first official conference will open. The best way to keep abreast of registration status is to sign up for the mailing list at the bottom of the Oculus Connect website.
So far the Oculus VR has not announced what it will charge to attend the event. The schedule is also still being finalized, but attendees can expect workshops on VR development and keynote talks from John Carmack (CTO), Michael Abrash (Chief Scientist), Palmer Luckey (Founder), and Brendan Iribe (CEO).
The conference will be hosted in Los Angeles, California, from September 19–20 at the Loews Hollywood hotel. The company calls it “a developer conference that brings together engineers, designers, and creatives from around the world to share and collaborate in the interest of creating the best virtual reality experiences possible.” The event is open to the public, but it’s stressed that this is a “developer-centric” event. Under ‘Who should attend?’ on the Oculus Connect FAQ, the company writes, “Anyone with an interest in developing great virtual reality content: VR developers, gaming, entertainment and cinematic content makers, innovators, creative thinkers, enthusiasts and more.”
