nVidia Titan X Announced, Powering New Oculus Demo from Weta Workshop — Breaking

A surprise entrance by nVidia’s CEO Jen-Hsun Huang, has revealed a new graphics card is on it’s way from the electronics giant. The Titan X.

Seems that Jen-Hsun Huang, CEO of nVidia wasn’t content with his epic event last night. He crashed Epic’s “The State of Unreal Engine” talk to announce that they had one more hardware announcement to make – the company’s Titan X GPU. Not only that, but it looks as if Oculus and nVidia have collaborated to present the latest demo powered by Epic Unreal Engine and created by SFX house Weta Workshop and that the GPU will power Oculus’ demo machines on the show floor.

Tim Sweeney of Epic, hinted that the new GPU has been designed with VR in mind ot at least to deal with the demand virtual reality rendering may require.

nVidia’s flagship ‘Titan’ brand has always been an OTT slab of silicon – but apparently Titan X pushes that reputation further. With 12G of RAM onboard, this thing is a monster.

Road to VR’s Ben lang was present at the event – he managed to snap this sneak preview of what the new Weta demo has in store. So, dragons then …

Unsurprisingly – Weta will be borrowing heavily from the Tolkien canon for the demo, and in fact will be a tweaked experience based on parts of the ‘Hobbit’ franchise.

We’ll try to dig out more details on the card and the demand will share as soon as we have it.

This story is breaking – we’ll bring you more as we find it.
