Eve Valkyrie Fanfest 2015 VR Gameplay, Now Running on Oculus Rift Crescent Bay

At Eve Fanfest 2015, developer CCP Games is showing the latest build of their first VR game, Eve Valkyrie.

CCP says that the build of Eve Valkyrie running at Fanfest 2015 is one of the most full featured games to be shown on the Oculus Rift. The latest build is noticeably more polished than the last time I played it with a refined holographic cockpit UI, a more cinematic takeoff sequence, multiple ship classes, and a new ship graveyard map not seen previously.

Eve Valkyrie is being shown primarily on the Oculus Rift DK2 running on rigs powered by Nvidia’s new Titan X GPU. The game is also being shown to select groups at the show for the first time on the Oculus Rift Crescent Bay prototype.

Disclosure: CCP Games is covering travel and lodging expenses for one Road to VR writer to attend Fanfest 2015.

As much as I initially HATED the sluggish controls of Elite Dangerous, they grew on me over time. Having to think about your turn rate and momentum in each axis, makes combat much more tactical. Seeing the nimble fighters in this video now makes me wince a bit. Space combat games run the risk of only having “hold the cursor at this point and fire” for gameplay. Hopefully the gaze-based lockon mentioned in previous previews break up the action a bit. Also, points for capital ships!

Heavy with disgust, “Where are you going, pilot?” Gotta love it. :-)

I have to say, as an avid EVE player, that sequence made me giddy. The main problem I see is that the ship seems to move around the battlefield too quickly.

I think they are going to have some population issues opening the alpha test to Eve and Dust owners only. Is there really that much crossover between DK2 and Eve? Opening it up to all DK2 owners would net a lot of goodwill . . . hint hint.
