Oculus’ Head of Display Technology is set to talk at CES on the subject of how the Oculus Rift VR Headset, due for launch in Q1 2016, might just be the “The Family Friend” when it comes to entertaining your kids.
Yes, it’s that time of year again where we prepare to head off to the bright lights (and grime) of Las Vegas for the biggest annual consumer electronics trade show, CES. Exhibitor details are being finalised and some of the itinerary is appearing for review.
One of the first talks to appear relating to virtual reality, a presentation by Oculus’ Head of Display Technology, MaryLou Jepson, will walk attendees through her vision of “family screen time”. No real details are available as to the content of the talk, but as the talk is part of the ‘FamilyTech Summit’, it may be that it’s designed to quell current pre-conceptions that virtual reality is a solitary, isolating experience – the antithesis of good, wholesome, family fun.
Jepson was former head of Google X’s display division, essentially an R&D lab for experimental technology, before making the move to Oculus.
Road to VR will be at CES, set to run between the 6th and 9th of January 2016. It promises to be VR’s biggest CES ever, so stay tuned for updates.
