PlayStation VR Priced at $399 with October Release Date

At a special press event held at GDC in San Francisco today, Sony have announced that the PlayStation VR headset will cost $399 and is due to ship October 2016.

Sony caused a storm when they announced they were working on a Virtual Reality headset back at GDC in 2014. Project Morpheus, as it was then known, was to be powered by the company’s then just released games console the PlayStation 4 with motion controller duties handled by PlayStation move controllers.

Now, again at GDC, Sony have announced that the PlayStation VR headset will arrive October 2016 and will set you back $399 in the US, £349 in the UK and 44,980 Yen in Japan.

The PlayStation VR release follows both the Oculus Rift (end of March) and the HTC Vive (April 5th) to market – we now have a complete picture of the main VR players’ plans for 2016.

Andrew House, President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, said that “Playstation VR. It’s been a long road for virtual reality. VR at PlayStation has been quite the journey.,”With VR we can offer unprecedented immersion to gamers. Over the past two years since we showed PSVR, we showed a variety of demos.”

This story is breaking and will be updated as we receive information.
