Project Sansar ‘Creator Preview’ Sign Ups are Now Open, Launches in Summer

Project Sansar from Second Life creator Linden Lab is a new virtual world, built for virtual reality which promises world building tools capable of generating beautiful, shareable worlds online. Now, Linden Lab has announced it’s opened the sign up process for Project Sansar, inviting people join them on their ‘creator preview’, due to start in the Summer.

Linden Lab, the company behind the incredibly influential massively multiplayer online virtual world Second Life, are gearing up to deliver their next foray into immersive social spaces with Project Sansar. The ‘built for VR’ application is being billed by Linden Lab as a “New Platform Enables User-Created Social VR Experiences”, and the early glimpses of creative results built within Sansar are impressive.

“[Project Sansar] will empower people to easily create, share, and ultimately monetize their own interactive social experiences that can be enjoyed in VR with head-mounted displays like the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, as well as via PCs and, later, mobile devices,” stated a press release from Linden Lab.

Today, Linden Lab have announced the opening of applications to be part of the first people to set virtual foot inside Project Sansar as part of their forthcoming ‘Creator Preview’ initiative which is due to start in the Summer.

“Creating social VR experiences is too hard and expensive today, and that limits the value and growth of this incredible new medium,” said Ebbe Altberg, Linden Lab CEO. “Creating your own VR experience shouldn’t require an engineering team, and Project Sansar will make that possible. Over the past few months, a small number of creators have already made an impressive variety of awesome social VR experiences with Project Sansar, from virtual versions of real-world locations to fantasy worlds and stylized game-like environments, and more. We’ll soon be ready for many more creators to join Project Sansar, and we can’t wait to see what people will create.”

Those interested in taking part, should head over to the Project Sansar website, fill out the form, and wait with baited breath until notifications are sent out later in the year.
