‘Resident Evil 7: Biohazard’ Nabs ‘Best VR/AR Game’ at The Game Awards 2017

The yearly fanfare of the Game Awards has come and gone, leaving Capcom with the award for Best VR/AR Game for their massively successful horror-adventure Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (2017), a game that equally supports both PSVR and traditional monitors.

As a testament to its popularity, after its launch in January some metrics showed that almost 10 percent of registered PSVR players were playing it concurrently. Capcom announced last month that Resident Evil 7 had some 475,000 PSVR players out of the ~4 billion units sold. The game currently holds a near [5/5] stars on PSN.

The ‘Best VR Game’ category was modified slightly from last year to include AR games, although technically none of the nominees are available on the few nascent AR headsets in the wild.

And there was some pretty stiff competition too:

  • Resident Evil 7: Biohazard – developed by Capcom
  • Farpoint – developed by Impulse Gear
  • Lone Echo – developed by Ready at Dawn
  • Star Trek: Bridge Crew – developed by Red Storm Entertainment
  • Superhot VR – developed by Superhot Team

Nominees for The Game Awards were selected by an international jury of 51 global media and influencer outlets, selected for their history of critically and editorially evaluating video games.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard also recently took home the Golden Joystick for Best VR Game, determined by community choice.
