Samsung's Most Recent Revision of their Gear VR - Now for S6 Mobiles

If you’re a VR enthusiast and one of Amazon’s more than 200 million active online shoppers, you may like to know that Samsung’s headset will soon be officially available for online purchase from the online retailer, and even ‘Primable’ for fast shipping direct to your door.

Samsung launched the first Gear VR mobile headset cautiously into the consumer space, calling it the “Innovator Edition” and largely saying that it’s intended for developers and early adopters. But after seeing positive reactions from early adopters, Samsung has been steadily pushing the device into mainstream retail channels like Best Buy, and now, Amazon.

The Gear VR for Note 4 has technically been available through Amazon for some time, though it was from a third-party seller and listed at a significant premium. Now for the first time, Samsung itself is selling the Gear VR for S6 through Amazon at the same $199 MSRP that you’ll find on Samsung.com and other official channels.

“Gear VR for S6 will be available for purchase in limited quantities through Amazon.com in the next couple of weeks,” a Samsung spokeperson told Road to VR. “Samsung is committed to expanding channels for which consumers can purchase Gear VR and experience virtual reality.”

The Gear VR for S6 is already listed on Amazon and is eligible for ‘Prime’ shipping, the web retailer’s membership service that gives users free two-day shipping (or cheap one-day shipping) for eligible products, among other perks. The product page currently says that the headset “Usually ships within 2 to 5 weeks,” which means that fast shipping may not come into play until more stock is added. So far it seems that Amazon US is the first to see an official listing of the Gear VR for S6.

Amazon US is also a good place to find the two compatible Samsung smartphones that work with the Gear VR for S6, the Galaxy S6 (starting at $199 on-contract) and Galaxy S6 Edge (starting at $299 on-contract).
