Samsung Reveals ‘Gear VR’ Headset—Breaking

Samsung, at the company’s ‘IFA Unpacked’ event in Berlin today, have officially revealed their ‘Gear VR’ headset.

This article is breaking! More details being added as we go. Be sure to refresh from time to time or check back with us soon.

So far from the photo alone we can see a touchpad on the right side, along with a button or two, and there appears to be an IPD adjustment dial on the top of the device.

Samsung is still getting to the details of the device, but early photos have revealed a ‘Powered by Oculus’ logo on the side of the headset along with a look at the lenses and the smartphone enclosure.

Details are now emerging. We’ve posted the official specifications of Gear VR which reveal that the Galaxy Note 4 has an Oculus tracker inside for high speed and accurate motion sensing. Oculus says they’ve managed deep integration to the Galaxy Note 4’s hardware, allowing for an impressive sub-20ms motion-to-photons latency, which Oculus has long stated to be the latency threshold for a great VR experience.
