Smart Vive Game Pits Tennis Players Against Themselves

SelfieTennis adds a simple VR twist to the more than 150 year old sport which allows players to practice in a way they could never do in the real world.

Virtual reality is arguably at its best when it takes the real world and augments it in otherwise impossible ways. And that’s exactly what SelfieTennis does, an experimental HTC Vive game from Copenhagen based VRLympix.

Thanks to the HTC Vive’s high fidelity motion tracked controllers, players toss the tennis ball up for a serve with effortless intuitivity, then swing as usual. But unlike usual, an in-bounds hit will automatically teleport the player to the other side of the court, positioned ready to make a return shot… to themselves.

The concept is incredibly simple yet utterly impossible in the real world, making this a game uniquely suited for virtual reality. While it seems like a simple proof of concept for now, we’re hoping to see continued development on this idea from VRLympix.
