Serious Sam is going virtual in their newly announced VR game, Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope, a gore-filled VR shooter targeting both Steam VR and Oculus Rift.
Croteam, the studio behind the Serious Sam franchise, is touting Serious Sam VR as a “full-fledged VR title,” which will use either system’s motion controllers.
Unlike the flatscreen iterations, which have you running frantically all over the map as alien enemies spawn from every direction, Serious Sam VR appears to be more in line with what we’d call ‘shooting gallery’ style game, which seems to be decidedly forward-facing from the footage released in the trailer.
Coming to Early Access on Steam this summer, the game will initially launch with at least 2 different planets hosting multiple levels, of course each planet with their own giant end boss. The full game is slated to come to fruition by the end of this year, and will include:
- more planets with multiple in-world locations
- more enemies, weapons, bosses, power-ups
- shielding ability
- new difficulty mode
- introduction of player skill tree
The developers maintain that Serious Sam VR is secondary to their current project, Serious Sam 4, a game that has been in the works since its announcement in 2013.
Just to be clear, Serious Sam VR is a fun separate side project, we are still working hard on Serious Sam 4 as our prime goal. Be patient!
