SIGGRAPH 2015 ‘AR/VR Contest’ Finalist Shows Multiplayer Widescale Mixed Reality System

A recently released video from Kenzan Technologies (3D visual effects) and Artanim Foundation (real-time mocap) showcases the Geneva based partnership’s multiplayer version of their mixed reality system. Be careful with that torch, buddy!

They’ve called it ‘Real Virtuality’, and their widescale tracking space not only features an optical tracking system using multiple retro-reflective markers—so that feet, hands, and props can be in the experience—but also a backpack computer so users can explore the entire area without a tether trailing behind them.

Kenzan and Artanim, respectively working in 3D visual effects and real-time motion capture, are one of three teams to make it to the Immersive (AR/VR) Contest at this year’s Special Interest Group on Graphics Conference (SIGGRAPH), and are competing “to create and showcase the best augmented/virtual reality experiences possible using today’s technologies.”

Real Virtuality will be up against USC’s Institute for Creative Technologies’ ‘Discovering Near-Field VR: Stop Motion With a Touch of Light-Fields and a Dash of Redirection’ and Dassault Systemes’ ‘Never Blind in VR‘.

All finalists will demonstrate their work during Real-Time Live! on 11th August, 5:30-7:15 pm. Curious event-goers can check out the projects afterwards on 12th August, 5-7pm during SIGGRAPH’s VR Village.

Tickets for SIGGRAPH 2015 are available here.
