‘Star Wars: X-Wing VR Mission’ Coming to PSVR, Free for All ‘Battlefront’ Owners

A Star Wars: Battlefront game was teased for PlayStation VR back during GDC last March, and we also caught a glimpse during the E3 keynote address, but we’ve today learned the name of PSVR’s Star Wars game to come, and it’s all about X-Wings.

Announced at Sony’s pre E3 press event, Star Wars: X-Wing VR Mission puts you square in the seat of your one and only favorite rebel force from a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away. To entice PS4 owners to get into PSVR, EA is offering the X-Wings Mission free of cost for all owners of Star Wars Battlefront on PS4.

PlayStation VR will be officially launched on October 13th. Star Wars: X-Wing VR Missions will be coming to PSVR “later this year.”

Created by EA Dice and Criterion, a studio known for its work on the Need for Speed and Burnout series, the new Star Wars comes as another addition to the headset’s high-profile content including a Batman game and the latest PSVR-enabled Final Fantasy XV.

James Svensson, a producer at Criterion speaks a little about the game:

“Once you look outside your ship, you’ll start to take in and appreciate the sheer magnitude of the environment in which you’re sitting. Sure, you may think you know that a Blockade Runner or a Star Destroyer are big, but once you’re firing at Imperial forces alongside their hulls as you maneuver around their defenses, then you’ll truly comprehend the enormity of these starships. It’s intensely exciting!”
