2014’s SVVR Expo was one of the highlights of the VR calendar. A place where the VR enthusiast community could mingle with members of the industry to talk about and try the latest virtual reality has to offer. It was a great success and the organisers vowed to be back in 2015 to do it all over again.
And so, the 2015 SVVR Conference & Expo will soon be upon us and aims to top 2014’s inaugural event wherever possible. With panels, workshops and exhibitors given room to breathe as the event upscales to the newly renovated San Jose Convention Center in California. It runs from May 18-19th and those who are quick enough can register to receive early-bird discount on tickets to the show.
Normally dispersed about the country and the world, last year’s event saw what felt like the core of the VR community gathered together in one place. In addition to the expo, where exhibitors showed off their latest wares, the event held a series of informative panels, talks, and workshops from some of the biggest companies working in the VR industry. It was also the site of the 2014 ‘Ubercast’ podcast where Oculus founder Palmer Luckey made a surprise appearance.
While the expo portion of the event was home to familiar faces from near and far, it also brought out some previously unseen curiosities like the Infinadeck, a 1000 pound omnidirectional treadmill prototype. It was also the place where a number of folks got their head into Sony’s 2014 Morpheus prototype for the first time, including Mr. Luckey himself.
