Ghostbusters is coming to virtual reality courtesy of the team at The Void, who are bringing their mixed reality technology to bear on a new VR experience based on the latest movie in the franchise. What’s more, you’ll be able to get your hands on it at Madame Tussaud’s, New York, soon.
There are probably more than a few people out there for whom the idea of donning a proton pack, overalls and tearing through New York city shooting up and catching ghosts, would be dream come true. So news of a new mixed reality experience where you get to do just that will probably come as welcome news.
The proprietors of The Void, the worlds first virtual reality theme park based in Salt Lake City, Utah have announced they’re to partner with Sony Pictures to bring free-roaming, mixed reality with sights, sounds of the hit comedy franchise to their free-roaming, immersive platform and it’s called Ghostbusters: Dimension.
Scheduled to open to the public on July 1, 2016, the VR experience will launch exclusively as part of the Ghostbusters Experience at Madame Tussauds New York at their Times Square attraction. “The construction of this multi-layered and sensory environment is already underway and is designed to fully immerse visitors into the fantastical and spirited world of the new film.”
“Ghostbusters has an incredible, passionate fan following, and now VR technology allows the fans to become a Ghostbuster themselves within Madame Tussauds New York. The technology is breathtaking, the experience is thrilling, and what better way is there to use VR, than to let audiences inhabit the stories they love,” said Ghostbusters creator Ivan Reitman.
