Walmart Black Friday Sale Brings VR Ready Desktop to $500, Deep Discounts on VR Devices

Walmart just published their Black Friday deals, and while the actual selection of VR devices isn’t Earth-shattering, you might just be able to stitch together your new VR system with the help of one or two of the company’s big discounts.

The sale is equally valid in stores and online, but if you can bypass the inevitable crowds that descend upon the big box superstore every year, why not? Store doors open at 6PM on November 23rd, and online sales start the day of Thanksgiving, which could mean 12:00 am on the 22nd. Now for the deals.

‘VR Ready’ HP Pavilion Power Desktop – $500

Walmart seems to be the only retailer carrying this particular flavor the HP Pavilion Power Desktop. Fitted with a competent 7th generation core i5-7400 and a GTX 1060 3GB (great for most VR games), the desktop represents one of the cheapest ‘VR Ready’ desktops on the web. Combine that with an Oculus Rift from Best Buy, and you have yourself an entire PC VR system for just under $850, not to mention a computer capable of handling nearly any traditional PC game. You can of course always build your own, but you’d be hard pressed to reach that low of a price point without your own prior components.

PSVR GranTurismo Sport VR Bundle- $300 $400

Playstation 4 GranTurismo Sport VR Bundle comes with a physical copy of the game, a PSVR headset, a PlayStation Camera, and an updated version of the PSVR demo disk with 13 different demos to play. This is a great bundle if you’re only looking to get into racing games and other games that don’t require the PS Move controllers. Otherwise, we’d suggest hitting up Target’s Black Friday Sale for a deal that offers $100 off any PSVR headsets, meaning you might just be able to get that PSVR ‘all in’ bundle for nearly as cheap.

PS4 1TB Console $200 $300

Retailers like Walmart and Target are making it awfully hard not to want a PS4, and since the console drives the PlayStation VR headset, we can’t help but push the deal in front of your nose too. At $200, it’s the same as Target’s deal, but again, if you’re shopping all in one place or have a gift card to use, you’ll appreciate you can get the deal here too. With only $500, you could have a VR machine in your house, something that at the time of this writing costs at very least $690 ($390 PSVR GTS bundle, $300 PS4 1 TB console).

Select Samsung flagship phones work with Gear VR, which you can find regularly on Amazon for $87, or in a special Best Buy Black Friday bundle that comes with a Samsung Gear 360 camera for $200. To that effect, Walmart is offering a $300 Walmart Gift Card with qualifying Samsung devices on Verizon or AT&T. There’s also a deal on a Straight Talk Samsung Galaxy S7 32GB for $300, normally costing $500 at Walmart.

If you’re really scraping the bottom of the barrel, there are two plastic VR headsets that work with practically every phone using the Google Cardboard app store. These aren’t really advisable for anyone seriously looking to get into VR though, as most smartphones don’t natively have the sensors capable of making it as a high-quality as purpose-built mobile VR headsets like Samsung Gear VR or Google Daydream View. They certainly aren’t bad stocking stuffers though for the kids.

We’ll be keeping an eye out for more major Black Friday deals on your favorite VR devices, so check soon. Don’t forget to check out Target and Best Buy for some of the biggest savings this holiday.
